How does the community benefit?

In Sonoma County more than 800 RSVP volunteers serve more than 250 local agencies and provide more than 130,000 hours a year of their valuable time.  Through such efforts, RSVP is meeting the needs that strained local budgets cannot afford.

RSVP volunteers serve through a variety of organizations, agencies, and institutions designated as volunteer stations. The stations include courts, schools, libraries, day-care centers, hospitals, nursing homes, economic development agencies and other community service organizations.

Volunteer services include adult basic education, mentoring, tax aides, consultant services, community policing, low-cost weatherization and home repair, classroom aides, health care and substance abuse counseling, respite and in-home care, environmental surveys, telephone reassurance, and many other services.

How do RSVP volunteers benefit?

The benefits of volunteering are considerable.

  • Limitless opportunities to broaden life experience and touch the lives of friends and neighbors in your local community
  • Supplementary accident and liability insurance while on assignment
  • An invitation to Volunteer Recognition Events
  • RSVP newsletter mailed quarterly to volunteers
  • Membership in the National Senior Service Corps

Studies show that people who volunteer are healthier, feel greater purpose in their lives, and have higher self esteem.

Call the Volunteer Center at 573-3399 and ask to speak with the RSVP Coordinator, Laurie Parish to select a volunteer placement that is right for you.  Click  here to read an interesting article by Laurie, A New Look at Volunteering.
